How Leveling Up in RPGs Mirrors Real-Life Career Growth (And Why It Matters for Your Job Satisfaction)
In this blog, I will be sharing insights on how to envision career development as a gamer. An open world MMORPG where you can explore, be entertained, challenged, fail and succeed. I work with individuals in Calgary, across Alberta and online, who want to feel more fulfilled in their work. Whether you’re early in your journey or deep in a job you’ve outgrown, this blog is your quest log to greater satisfaction.
If you haven't already, you can check out my blog for How to Envision Career Development as a RPG Gamer#2 where I share an epic saga on, journey onto career exploration.
Career Satisfaction RPG Gamer Level 3

"Achieving level 3 requires a deep dive into career exploration."
Many gamers alike have experienced being in a party with a noob (not newb as someone who is willing to learn). A noob is a player who is inexperienced and lacks the determination to learn. Almost always, they are the priest or mage class that charges into the front line only to end up being annihilated.
Don't be that noob
"Stop carrying a warrior's double-handed battle axe in a priest support class character, which has extremely low strength and constitution."
Reaching level 3 = utilizing your hidden genius = career satisfaction
Able to choose a career path that aligns with core abilities and interests.
Able to envision, script and pursue short-term and long-term career goals.
Able to be career minded in the event of failure.
Adopting the Aspects of Well-Being Model to reach a higher level

Well-being = secondary traits and subclasses
An open world MMORPG is not without secondary traits and subclasses. Not only does it allow you to reach higher levels of greatest, it also keeps players entertained.
Well-being is a lot like secondary traits and subclasses. It's what helps us wake up in the morning energized, get to work on time, eat properly, and rest untroubled. Ultimately, well-being help us navigate through the world of employment successfully.
Well-being is Multi-dimensional
Physical: Incorporating physical activity, healthy foods and sleep.
Emotional: Learning to cope effectively with emotions in life to increase emotional intelligence.
Spiritual: Expanding one's sense of purpose and meaning and applying it in everyday life.
Intellectual: Unleashing creative (not artistic) abilities and finding ways to expand knowledge and skills.
Occupational: Harmoniously increasing personal satisfaction and enrichment along with work life.
Financial: Practicing positive and strategic financial habits.
Environmental: Promoting physical and emotional safety in all surroundings, including self and others.
Vocational: Ensuring job/career aligns and engages with authentic purpose and meaning
Dream job can quickly deteriorate without well-being
Let's think of the 9 Aspects of Well-being as our total being. We cannot level up our physical or emotional competencies without levelling up our financial well-being. Additionally, someone who lacks purpose and meaning in life may find levelling up vocational well-being difficult.
Securing your dream job can quickly become your worse job if you aren't finding ways to level up your secondary traits and subclasses. It's never too late to level up now, instead of being another victim to retirement fixation.
Final Objective: Achieve Career Satisfaction
Career satisfaction isn’t about having the fanciest job title. It’s about alignment, between your work and your inner character. It’s about waking up with purpose, not dread. With a strong character build, a meaningful quest line, and the right allies, you can absolutely reach that point.
And if you’re not sure what that looks like yet? That’s where I come in.
